ACAP Cape Breton is offering free home assessments to residents on well and septic systems all over Cape Breton as well as Mulgrave and Aulds Cove. The program will run until March 31, 2008.
The Environmental Home Assessment Program (EHAP) was launched on October 25, 2006 by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour. This two year pilot-program is designed to educate home owners on proper well, septic system and oil tank maintenance. To be eligible for the program, home owners must have a private well and an on-site septic system.
Each participant will receive an Environmental Home Assessment Kit which includes the following: water conservation devices, environmentally-friendly cleaning supplies, water sampling bottles and additional information on well, septic system and oil tank maintenance.
Participants will also receive a $50 voucher for a septic tank pump-out valid until March 31, 2008. Residents can also be eligible for a $3,000 septic repair grant if they meet certain income requirements.
Interested persons can call ACAP Cape Breton for more information at 567-1628 or toll-free at 1-866-500-3427 to arrange an appointment with one of our environmental home assessment personnel.
